The most popular cosmetic procedure in the world is wrinkle reducing injections with neurotoxins or the friendlier term, neuromodulators. The injections work by reducing the activity of the muscles they are injected to, thereby resulting in less movement and less dynamic wrinkles.

Duration of neuromodulators is highly variable among individuals and location. Typical durations quoted are 3-4 months. It takes 2-5 days for the initial onset of the neuromodulator to appear, and it peak effects in 2-3 weeks. Starting about 2 months after injection, the muscles gradually start to gain more activity. In other words, the relaxing effect of neuromodulators isn’t equal throughout the treatment, with the last 4 weeks showing increasing muscle activity.

Consultation

After your consultation, based on the identified concern, an FDA recommended unit amounts of botulinum toxin are injected into your skin or muscles. The number of injections needed depends on many factors, including the specific area being treated and type of botulinum toxin used. It is never recommended to treat just one area, like the 11’s, as that can exacerbate other muscles and make them look “unbalanced”.

During Your Treatment

Injections usually take 10 to 15 minutes and are performed in out treatment rooms at Reclaim MedSpa in Libertyville. Most patients find treatment injections relatively pain-free.

Step 3
After the Treatment

Injectable treatments require little downtime, although you may experience bruising or other minor local side effects from the injection. Full effect is seen in 14 days. Expect to resume your normal daily activities right after the procedure and make sure to schedule your next treatment 3-4 month after your initial treatment

The procedure can be somewhat painful, although topical anesthetics are applied to the skin beforehand to minimize the pain of the needle stick. There is no pain once the procedure has ended.

The efficacy is the same across all three brands, with results lasting between four to six months.

We will apply a topical anesthetic cream before beginning, and each treatment lasts between fifteen and twenty minutes.

After your appointment you may have some redness, bruising or swelling in the treated areas. These effects will resolve themselves within a couple of days and will not affect your ability to go about your daily activities.

The treated areas should be smoother, and you can expect less muscular motion in the treated area. This will become more noticeable a week to ten days after the treatment.
